Vaginal Discharge During Sex

Discharge during sex: Almost every time I have sex with my husband, a lot of discharge comes out of me and is usually on him after we finish. It is sometimes white and sometimes brown at different times of the month. It doesn't smell, and I have no other problems such as burning/itching, and sex isn't painful. Is this normal?! It's so annoying.

It’s common to experience discharge during sex, and what you’re describing sounds quite normal. Vaginal discharge can vary in colour and consistency throughout your menstrual cycle. Here’s a breakdown:

  • White Discharge: This is often normal and can be a sign of ovulation when your body is most fertile. It can be thicker and more noticeable during arousal because your body produces lubrication to make sex more comfortable.
  • Brown Discharge: This is usually old blood leaving your body. It can appear before or after your period. Brown discharge during sex is typically harmless but can be more noticeable if you have sex near your period.

The fact that the discharge has no bad smell and you have no other symptoms like itching or burning suggests it’s not an infection. Your body naturally produces mucus and other fluids, and sexual arousal increases these secretions.

While this discharge is generally normal, if you’re ever worried, experiencing new symptoms, or if the discharge changes significantly in colour or odour, it might be a good idea to talk to a healthcare provider for peace of mind.

Experiencing discharge during sex is normal and often varies with your menstrual cycle. If there’s no odour or discomfort, it’s usually not a concern.
