Nausea During Arousal

How Can I Relieve Nausea During Arousal? I have a long-term partner (9 years), and sometimes we are long-distance for a few months at a time! Every time we try to be intimate for the first time in a while, I shake and get really nauseated. This is similar to how I responded when we were younger and new to this. I do have plenty of underlying conditions and stomach issues, but this is different. I don’t feel like this every time I’m intimate, just the first several times. He can’t even make me blush with words without me getting queasy. I really want to emphasize that we both do whatever we can to help me feel okay. Is there anything I can do or take that would help reduce this reaction?

Experiencing nausea during arousal can be distressing, especially if it’s a recurring issue. It’s commendable that you and your partner are supportive through this. Nausea in such situations can stem from a combination of physical and psychological factors.

  • Physical Factors: Nausea can sometimes be triggered by hormonal changes during arousal, which affect gastrointestinal function. Additionally, pre-existing stomach issues and underlying health conditions may exacerbate these symptoms.
  • Psychological Factors: Emotional responses to arousal, especially after a period of separation, can also play a significant role. Anxiety, excitement, and anticipation can manifest physically, leading to symptoms like nausea and shaking.

  • Breathing Techniques: Deep breathing exercises can help calm your nervous system and reduce symptoms of nausea and shaking.
  • Gradual Approach: Ease into intimacy gradually to give your body time to adjust and reduce the initial shock to your system.
  • Positioning: Experimenting with different positions that are more comfortable for you physically might help alleviate symptoms.
  • Hydration and Nutrition: Ensure you’re adequately hydrated and avoid heavy meals before intimate moments.
  • Communication: Openly discussing your feelings with your partner can alleviate anxiety and make you feel more supported.

If these strategies don’t alleviate your symptoms, it might be helpful to consult with a healthcare provider to rule out any underlying medical conditions contributing to your nausea.
